For 40 years, the LEGO Foundation has worked through grantmaking to support children's learning, wellbeing and development. Grantmaking is our primary approach, and over time we have developed a second way to create impact.
Alongside our philanthropic work, the LEGO Foundation makes impact investments.
Together, grantmaking and impact investments are complementary pathways, each playing a different role but both working toward the same mission.
How impact investing works for us
Impact investments are infusions into organisations and solutions with the potential to scale, generate measurable outcomes for children and deliver a financial return. That return does not leave the Foundation. It is reinvested into new grants or new impact investments, in a model that is circular by design and strengthens our ability to create impact over time.
We focus on evidence-based solutions in children's education and learning. We look for approaches that are already working and need capital to reach more children, not ideas that are yet to be proven. The standard is the same one we apply to everything we do: only the best is good enough.
Our impact investments in action
In 2025, the LEGO Foundation committed its first large-scale impact investment, partnering with A-Street, a multi-stage investment fund focused on improving PK-12 student learning and achievement in the United States.
What this means for our work
Impact investments and grants are complementary approaches. On the investment side, we support strong, evidence-based solutions to grow and reach more children. On the philanthropic side, we continue strengthening the systems, educators and partners who help those solutions take root.
