Children in conflict and crisis

When a child's world is disrupted, learning cannot wait.

Around the world, millions of children are growing up in settings shaped by conflict, displacement and humanitarian crisis. For these children, access to education and safe, supportive environments is not guaranteed. It is fragile, interrupted and often absent. The LEGO Foundation believes that a child's right to learn does not disappear in a crisis. It becomes more urgent.

Every child deserves to be understood.

Many neurodivergent children face barriers that arise not from who they are, but from environments that are not designed for the way they learn, communicate and experience the world.

The LEGO Foundation was founded in Denmark and remains rooted in Danish society today. Our work here is an expression of the shared global commitment: that every child, in every setting, deserves the conditions to thrive and grow.

Another way to reach more children

For 40 years, the LEGO Foundation has worked through grantmaking to support children's learning, wellbeing and development. Grantmaking is our primary approach, and over time we have developed a second way to create impact.

Our thematic areas are not separate programmes

They are interwoven parts of a single commitment: that every child, everywhere, deserves the conditions to thrive and grow. A child affected by conflict needs safety and continuity of learning. A child with special educational needs deserves a system that sees and supports them. Evidence runs through all of the work, informing how we choose partners, design programmes and measure impact.

Across all of this, we fund and collaborate with partners rather than operating programmes directly. We bring long-term commitment, evidence and resources. Our partners bring their strengths: closeness to children's lives, and the trust of the communities they serve.
