The project aims to increase awareness of and knowledge about the importance of play as well as children’s wellbeing and development among parents and adults in the following communities: Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Meru, Kisumu, and Suba.
Close to 150 community outreach staff, practitioners and teachers at 40 kindergartens and schools will participate in learning through play training sessions and get access to LEGO play materials. Through home visitation and community groups, 3,000 parents and caregivers in the communities will gain an understanding of the importance of play and be empowered to use learning through play to support the development of their children.
SOS Children’s Villages is a child development organisation with interventions that benefit children who have lost parental care and those at risk of losing parental care. This project is an integrated part of the SOS Children’s Villages Family Strengthening Programmes in Kenya and will run for 1.5 years (starting in September 2016).
