Sesame Workshop

Play Every Day is a three-year (2016-2018), multi-country initiative launched in collaboration with Sesame Workshop. It is designed to shift parent and caregiver perceptions about the educational value of play.

Sesame Workshop

Focused on low-resource, urban communities in Mexico, South Africa and India, Play Every Day seeks to shift parents' attitudes and behaviours around play and its critical importance in learning in the early years.

The initiative will seek to understand culturally specific perceptions around play and then encourage play that contributes to children’s early development and learning outcomes.

During 2017, Sesame Workshop will host a series of community-based events for children and families called Play Workshops. These workshops will provide a better understanding of

  • Adult attitudes and behaviours around play
  • How children learn through a range of play activities
  • How adults and children play together in different country contexts

Applying these learnings, families and communities can be better supported to understand the importance of play and to integrate it into their daily lives.

In 2018, Sesame Workshop will implement a 12-week intervention based on the learnings from the Play Workshops, and conduct an impact assessment to determine whether parents and caregivers shifted their attitudes and perceptions around learning through play.
