Ukraine
Since 2010, the LEGO Foundation has been working with the Ukrainian Ministry of Education on improving the quality of early learning in 63 kindergartens in Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv, Lviv and Dnipropetrovs’k.
As a result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and the LEGO Foundation, learning through play has been an integral part of the kindergarten curriculum since 2010.
The Foundation is committed to providing teacher training and play materials to the kindergartens. Some 400 teachers have been taught to understand the importance of play and to use it actively in their teaching. This has shifted their practice from a more traditional chalk-and-talk approach.
Around 18,000 children are now engaged in learning through play on a daily basis. In addition, the Foundation and UNICEF launched a project in September 2015, to support 18,000 children affected by the current conflict in Ukraine. The initiative falls under the LEGO Foundation’s global partnership with UNICEF. Read more here.
