Yesterday the Ambassador of Denmark, Henrik Bramsen Hahn, hosted an official launch event celebrating the LEGO Foundation’s focus on supporting Mexican children’s early childhood development through play. There was a full house at the Danish ambassador’s residence with guests, partners and key stakeholders from public and private organizations stretching from sectors such as education, health and social development who joined in marking the important collaboration between the Danish corporate foundation and its Mexican partners.
The LEGO Foundation seeks to assist the development of children around the world through the transformative power of learning through play. The LEGO Foundation has selected Mexico as one of four strategic priority countries where it seeks to drive a range of activities across the full learning ecosystem to create positive impact for children.
John Goodwin, the CEO of the LEGO Foundation, who flew in from Europe to attend the event, was excited about the launch of the Foundation in Mexico:
“There is an urgent need to make play a priority in children’s lives. We know that play is crucial for children’s positive development. We also know that the early years of a child’s life are critically important for laying a solid foundation for later development. Playful learning experiences can make a real difference for children and equip them with the skills they need to thrive and succeed,”
In collaboration with DIF Nacional, Teach for Mexico and the National Children’s Hospital, the LEGO Foundation aims to reach 1 million Mexican children by 2022:
“We are extremely proud of our joint efforts to support Mexican children by providing opportunities for playful learning experiences that nurture their skills and lay the foundation for them to become creative, engaged, lifelong learners,” John Goodwin continues.
The Danish Ambassador Henrik Bramsen Hahn was also pointing to the positive perspectives of the launch and the commitment from the Danish foundation: “I am very happy to host the launch of the LEGO Foundation and its activities here in my home. The fact that the LEGO Foundation is working closely together with relevant and ambitious Mexican partners to make a positive change and promote social development, makes me proud. It is initiatives like these that propel development, learning and innovation, and the LEGO Foundation’s collaboration with DIF Nacional is a significant brick in the MX-DK bilateral collaboration. I look much forward to following the projects closely during the next years.“
The launch took place at the Ambassador of Denmark’s residence in Mexico City, with a wide range of prominent guests and partners. The night was initiated by the Ambassador introducing and endorsing the LEGO Group for their commitment to Mexico and the positive impact the Danish company has on the economic and social development of the country, followed by remarks of Mr. John Goodwin, CEO of the LEGO Foundation, and Dr. José Alberto García Aranda, General Director of the National Children’s Hospital.
